|Michael Burke is the Lawrence Martin Chair in Business in Tulane University's Freeman School of Business and he holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Prior to coming to Tulane University, he was a tenured Associate Professor of Management at New York University's Stern School of Business. |
His current research focuses on learning and the efficacy of workplace safety and health interventions, the meaning of employee perceptions of work environment characteristics (psychological and organizational climate), and statistical procedures for assessing inter-rater agreement. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on these and other topics in applied psychology, management, measurement, and statistics. In 2006, he was awarded the Decade of Behavior Research Award for his research on workplace safety from a federation of professional scientific associations. From 2006 to 2009, Professor Burke served, by appointment of the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, a three-year term on the Safety and Occupational Health Study Section of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
During 2007-2010, Professor Burke served as the Editor of Personnel Psychology and he has served on the editorial boards of numerous leading journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Management.
Among his many roles in professional associations, Professor Burke served as President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) in 2003-2004. Professor Burke is a Fellow of Division 5 (Division of Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics) and Division 14 (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science.
Recently, Professor Burke completed a term as Chair of Tulane University's Social Behavioral Institutional Review Board.
