Professor Mitchell brings a unique professional background and dynamic research focus to Freeman. Her research interests center on consumer culture theory, marketing communications, and consumer behavior, and her past work includes a role as the Regional Special Events Manager at Macy’s, where she worked with celebrity talent like 50 Cent, Robin Thicke, and Patty Labelle.

Natalie Mitchell took a job at Tulane because of its strong background in research, its collegial faculty environment, and its exceptionally bright and ambitious students. She finds it rewarding to work toward empowering the next generation of marketing professionals.

Prior to coming to Tulane, Professor Mitchell served as a teaching assistant at the University of Texas-Austin, both in the McCombs School of Business and in the College of Communication.


Professor Mitchell teaches Advanced Marketing Communications in the MBA program and Foundations of Marketing, an introductory marketing course. Most of her students are juniors coming into her class with prior internships and knowledge about the marketing field. She also enjoys meeting international students and draws on their diverse cultural experiences to connect with course content.

Professor Mitchell exposes students to a unique business perspective by sharing her own fascinating professional and academic background. In addition to her professional positions, she has studied the impact of marketing communications on consumer culture, such as luxury brands and reality TV, as well as the dynamics involved in selling and buying counterfeit goods, with a focus on purse parties.

Helping Students Secure Internships
Professor Mitchell loves speaking with students about applying for internships, providing assistance in preparing, and then following up. Former students have secured roles at companies such as LatinWorks in Austin and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Professional Recognition
Professor Mitchell has won several awards and honors, including the Tracy-Locke/Morris Hite Endowed Presidential Scholarship for Advertising Studies, the Society of Consumer Psychology Diversity Travel Scholarship, and the American Marketing Association Valuing Diversity Scholarship.
